Niyo card is widely accepted in both the countries

However small stores/hawkers etc require cash as a mode of payment.

Also in Malaysia if you are taking intercity buses like KL to Melaka or KL to penang or even KL to Singapore, you will require hard cash, cards are not accepted

For the oaat 4 days in Malaysia, Niyo credit & debit card is working flawlessly

A few days back, most of us suggested MYR for Malaysia, as you can get that here easily. But I’m still sticking around with USD. For 2 reasons.

  1. NIYO works seamlessly in both these countries. They have listed banks and ATMs.
  2. USD is like an investment. The remaining amount can be used on the next trip, unlike MYR or SGD.
Enable the tap feature on the Niyo card that you can use in the buses of Singapore in case anything else fails. This works pretty well in the local markets as well, like Chinatown, Little India, Clarke Quay, Mustafa Center in Singapore, and then Petaling Jaya, Berjaya, KLCC, central market in Kuala Lumpur.
Also, try adding your Niyo card to your Uber and Grab apps. The report says that had worked well too.
