Travelling with Niyo is a breeze (I use the SBM variant). Just been to Zurich, Paris and Lyon last week. The card works on all POS machines by tapping. Didnt have to use the PIN at all anywhere, for all denominations of transactions.
You can easily plan your transportation by getting a Day Pass (however make an estimate of the number of single trips you will be actually making before you go for a full day pass) . The Visit Paris card seems attractive, but you need to ponder beforehand, whether it actually meets your requirements… and whether the cumulative total of all the sightseeing and transport will be equal to the value of the card… there is only so much of museum seeing that you can do… every one has their own ceiling (of tolerance).
If you have an Android phone, make sure that you have a model that supports NFC (I had to buy a Nothing Phone 2a plus, to ensure this), as the transport system uses tap tech from your phone to allow you access to the transportation.
Pre book all your Museum and Palace of Versailles tickets through Tiquet or Getyour Guide (only if there is a discount available). Also, dont go for combos unless its actually cost effective.
I bought all my museum tickets directly from the Museum sites using Niyo card.
There is no need to print out any tickets. Showing PDF or image on your mobile works for everything (other than the transportation system, which needs NFC).
Take the funicular to the Sacre Coeur Basilica to save yourself the effort of climbing 550 steep stairs (for the older folks like me). Its a part of your day pass.
For any other tips or insights, just message. I will reply before I forget things…
We took a day trip to Lyon. Nice enough city… though if you have only one other city to visit from Paris, you should consider Strasbourg which is lovely. Of course down south there is Nice.
Best wishes to all! Happy travels
