Need to enable DCC payment for Immigration Health Surcharge

Hi,

I am trying to pay my Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for my upcoming course in the UK. However, the amount that I’m supposed to pay is automatically converted to INR from GBP on the immigration website. There’s no option of choosing currency on the website. From what I understand, this comes under Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) and the Niyo global debit card doesn’t allow such transactions by default.

While I understand that this is done for the customer’s best interest, I have no option here other than to pay using the DCC rate. Therefore, I would like to know if I could activate DCC payments on my card for this one transaction.

Hey same thing happened with me today…So do you know how to enable DCC?

Hey @Simar_Chawla

Welcome to the Niyo Community! :raised_hands:

The decline you’re experiencing is due to a DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) error. This happens when you try to use INR (your home currency) while abroad. To resolve this, please make transactions in the local foreign currency instead of INR. :earth_asia::credit_card:

We’ve disabled the DCC feature to avoid forex conversion markups and ensure a seamless experience for you. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help!

First check the payment page. If it asks to convert the charge into INR or your home currency that is DCC. Always pick pay in GBP.

Niyo Global blocks DCC already on its side so any attempt to convert will be declined. That means you will pay in the correct currency and get accurate rates with no extra markup.

If your GBP payment still fails it might be because international usage is locked. Just open your Niyo app and turn on international or travel settings before checkout.

So no DCC, no drama. Pay in GBP, keep the Niyo protections on, and your surcharge payment will sail through without surprises.

Hey @Krishna_Singh

We truly appreciate the effort you’ve taken to explain things in such detail — it means a lot! :raising_hands:

Just to add a quick update on DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion):

Earlier, DCC was blocked by default, which led to some transaction declines. But now, with DCC enabled, you have full control over your international spending. :globe_showing_europe_africa::credit_card:

:light_bulb: How to avoid unnecessary DCC charges:

:white_check_mark: Always choose to pay in the local currency of the merchant (not INR) to enjoy VISA’s exchange rate with zero forex markup.
:white_check_mark: Carefully check the payment screen — if you’re asked to convert to INR, select “No” or “Decline Conversion.”
:white_check_mark: When available, switch the location/currency in the merchant’s website footer or profile settings before making a payment.
