Hi everyone, Can some wise person guide me about Niyo Credit Card? I have been using the Axis Bank Privilege Credit Card for buying the Tidal Music subscription and it was working fine for almost all the international online payments be it Napster, Tidal or whatever. But recently I tried the same card on Qobuz and it is asking me to select the country linked to your Bank Account, Obviously India won’t be there because Qobuz isn’t available in India. My simple question is will Niyo work in this scenario? If yes then which is better option Debit or the Credit Card.
Hi Rahul,
Thanks for asking!
Niyo Global cards—both debit and credit—are designed to support international transactions, even with merchants that aren’t based in India. These cards are powered by global networks like Visa and linked to Indian bank accounts, allowing you to make seamless international payments. The best part? Zero forex markup—so you save on every cross-border transaction.
That said, some platforms like Qobuz may have geo-restrictions or specific licensing limitations. Even if your card supports international payments, Qobuz might block Indian-issued cards entirely, not because of the card itself, but due to their own service policies. This is something we’ve seen with a few other global platforms too.
Niyo Debit vs Credit Card – Which one to go for?
Both options come with zero forex markup, but here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:
Niyo Global Debit Card (With DCB and SBM):
- Linked directly to your savings account.
- Great for those who prefer to spend within their means.
- TCS (Tax Collected at Source) applies on international transactions (above ₹7L/year in some cases), but is refundable when you file your ITR.
Niyo Global Credit Card (SBM):
- It’s a secured card (backed by a fixed deposit).
- Offers up to 45 days of interest-free credit.
- Not subject to TCS for international spends—so could be more cost-effective if you transact frequently.
Recommendation: If you’re looking to avoid TCS deductions and want some payment flexibility, the Niyo Global Credit Card might be the better fit. But if you prefer spending directly from your bank account, the debit card is a solid choice too.
Hope this helps you decide! Let us know if you want help applying for either of the cards. Cheers!
