Here’s a sample itinerary for a four-day visit to Thailand. Ideally, a longer stay would allow for a deeper exploration, including a week dedicated to the northern regions. For Bangkok-only travel, see itineraries and discussions by travellers here: >>insert link to Bangkok Itinerary thread<<
Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok
- Morning: Arrive in Bangkok and check into your hotel. Take some time to relax and refresh.
- Mid-day and Afternoon: Visit the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), the city’s most famous landmarks. Also walk around the city centre and head to Wat Saket for a beautiful sunset view!
- Evening: Explore the bustling streets of Khao San Road, known for its lively atmosphere, street food, and nightlife (for adults).
Day 2: Cultural and Historical Sites in Bangkok
- Morning: Take a boat tour along the Chao Phraya River and explore the floating markets. Or visit the Damneon Saduak floating market just outside the city.
- Afternoon: Visit Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho, home to the reclining Buddha and traditional Thai massage.
- Evening: Experience a traditional Thai dinner (pad thai and mango sticky rice are both soo good!) and cultural shows at a local restaurant.
Day 3: Travel to Chiang Mai
- Morning: Fly to Chiang Mai early in the morning. Alternatively, take an overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and you’ll reach early in the morning on day 3. Check into your hotel in the old city.
- Afternoon: Rent a scooter and ride to Doi Suthep Temple for panoramic views of Chiang Mai and explore the nearby tribal villages.
- Evening: Return to town and wander through Chiang Mai Night Bazaar for shopping and street food - don’t miss the Khao Suey here.
Day 4: Exploring Chiang Mai’s Natural Beauty
- Morning: Visit an elephant sanctuary to learn about and interact with these gentle giants ethically. Alternatively, do a day trip to Pai which is two hours away by road.
- Afternoon: Explore the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam or visit the serene Bhuping Palace Gardens.
- Evening: Prepare for departure or enjoy a final meal at a local restaurant before heading to the airport.
