:police_car_light: 1. AIR SUVIDHA 2.0 IS OFFICIALLY BACK FOR INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS

If you travelled during the pandemic, you remember the Air Suvidha portal. It’s back in a new digital format, and compliance is mandatory.

  • What happened: Following a global Ebola health alert, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has reintroduced the Air Suvidha 2.0 digital portal for all international arrivals entering India.

  • Who needs to fill it? Everyone. It does not matter if you are an Indian citizen returning from holiday, an NRI, or a foreign national. Even if your departure country is entirely unaffected, you must complete the form.

:clipboard: What this means for Indian travellers:

  • The 24-Hour Rule: You need to submit the Self Declaration Form (SDF) online within 24 hours before your flight to India begins.

  • At the Airport: Keep the generated QR code or digital acknowledgement handy on your phone. Airlines and immigration officers will be verifying it before you board and upon arrival.

:airplane: 2. INDIGO LAUNCHES “INDIGO LITE” FARES FOR LIGHT TRAVELLERS

Airlines are finally giving a financial break to backpackers and business travellers who hate paying for check-in baggage allowances they never use.

  • The News: India’s largest carrier, IndiGo, has introduced a brand-new, budget-friendly fare class named IndiGo Lite.

  • How it works: If you are travelling strictly with cabin baggage only (up to 7kg), you can opt for this cheaper fare tier instead of the standard retail price.

:clipboard: What this means for Indian travellers:

  • The Savings: It is available for bookings now for travel starting July 15, 2026.

  • Applicability: The “Lite” fare applies to both one-way and return bookings across domestic and international non-stop flights. It’s the perfect excuse to book a budget weekend escape to Bangkok, Vietnam, or a quick domestic run!

:stop_sign: 3. HEADING TO THE AMERICAS? GERMANY EASES TRANSIT VISA RULES

Hunting for cheaper, multi-stop flights across the Atlantic just got a lot less stressful for Indian passport holders.

  • The Details: Following a similar move by France, Germany has officially removed transit visa requirements for Indian nationals transiting through German airport international zones to a non-EU destination.

:clipboard: What this means for Indian travellers:

  • Smarter Layovers: You can now confidently book flights with layovers in major hubs like Frankfurt or Munich without the hassle, time, or expense of applying for an airport transit visa.

  • Note: This only applies if you stay within the international transit area and your bags are checked through to your final destination.

:locomotive: 4. DOMESTIC TRAVEL: INDIAN RAILWAYS HEAVILY HIKES FINES

Planning a local leg by train for your upcoming journey? Double-check your tickets, as minor slip-ups will now cost you a lot more.

  • The Update: Under the newly implemented Jan Vishwas Act, Indian Railways has heavily increased penalties for rule violations to improve passenger safety and compliance.

:clipboard: What this means for Indian travellers:

  • Ticketless Travel: Finding yourself without a valid ticket now attracts a minimum fine of ₹500 plus the cost of the fare (shifted to a civil penalty mechanism).

  • Reserved Coaches: If a male passenger wrongfully enters a women’s reserved coach, they now face an immediate ₹2,500 fine. Ensure your co-travellers are fully aware of the coach layouts!

:credit_card: NIYO SMART TRAVEL TIP OF THE WEEK

With Air Suvidha 2.0 rolling back into effect, don’t make the mistake of waiting until you get to a chaotic departure terminal abroad to fill it out.

Our Advice: Set a calendar reminder to complete your Air Suvidha digital form at the exact same time you do your online web check-in (24 hours before departure). Take a screenshot of the confirmation QR code and save it to an offline photo album on your phone. Relying on airport Wi-Fi at immigration to load an email link is a recipe for unnecessary travel anxiety!

:palm_tree: FINAL BOARDING CALL

This week’s updates remind us how quickly the global travel ecosystem can shift. While we usually focus purely on visa approvals, digital health portals and new airline fare tiers can change your travel budget and airport timeline overnight.
