Hornbill Festival, Nagaland

This year, I attended the 25th Anniversary of the Annual festival held in Nagaland… Here the Tribes of Nagaland unite and celebrate together… the joys and festivities. This is indeed the festival of festival, The Hornbill Festival.

The Naga Heritage Village is a display of traditions of each of the Tribe in a set up called Morung - A hut exhibiting the cooking style, attire, drum log, accessories and customs of each of the Naga Tribe.

I highly recommend taking a guide (which costs 100/- for 2 hours) to walk you through the Morungs and explain about the history of the tribes)

The day usually starts with a Cultural show where the tribes mark their attendance by a whistle or howl unique to each tribe. The tribes show their dance forma, hunting mocks, music, sports etc.

Evenings are all for music with busking, concerts and band performances. The place is so joyful and you could see everyone smiling, greeting, grooving to the music … a warm celebration.

There’s rice beer to try, naga delicacies (mostly for meat eaters), art, craft, sports and what not…

In addition, you could choose to go explore the villages such as kigwema, khonoma and jakhama.

You could check my reel for a quick view into the fun I had and may be add it to your list
