There’s something special about conversations that start over coffee and end with courage, confidence, and new travel plans.
Hey Community ![]()
Last weekend at Third Wave Coffee, Koramangala, our community gathered for a themed meetup that was close to many hearts, “Female Solo Travelers: The Everything-You-Need-to-Know Guide”, and trust us, it turned out to be more than just a meetup. It was a room full of stories, learning, and quiet bravery.
A Slow Start, Strong Energy
The meetup kicked off around 11 AM, with people trickling in one by one, coffees in hand, curiosity on their minds. While the theme centred around female solo travel, the room was refreshingly diverse.
We had:
- Women who had already travelled solo.
- Women dreaming of their first solo trip.
- Male travellers who were supporters, allies, and aspiring solo travellers themselves.
From the start, it was clear that this wasn’t about gender alone. It was about independence, safety, and seeing the world on your own terms.
Meet the Host: @Prernaa_Travels

Leading the conversation was @Prernaa_Travels , a solo traveller who has:
Travelled to 19+ countries, Explored 23+ Indian states, Done it all while working!
From getting stranded at railway stations in Germany to navigating unfamiliar cities alone, Prerna spoke honestly about the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Thank you @Prernaa_Travels for this meaningful and insightful session!
What stood out most? Her story proved that solo travel isn’t about privilege; it’s about planning, courage, and choice.
Real Talk: Safety Tips Every Solo Traveller Should Know
Some key takeaways:
- Avoid getting overly drunk unless you’re with someone you deeply trust.
- Make fake calls if you ever feel uncomfortable around strangers.
- Refer to yourself as “we” instead of “I”; it subtly signals that you’re not alone.
- Always plan and choose women-friendly hostels or stays.
These weren’t fear-based tips; they were empowering ones. The kind that helps you travel smarter, not scared.
Travel Hacks You Probably Didn’t Know
Prerna also shared lesser-known travel insights that sparked a lot of “Wait, I didn’t know that!” moments.
Airline Layover Programs
Many airlines offer layover programs if you have a long halt (often 16 hours or more). These can include:
- Short city tours.
- Activities near the airport.
- Food or accommodation options.
Some are paid, some are complimentary, but either way, it’s a great way to turn waiting time into an experience.
Forex & Money Safety
When it comes to managing money abroad:
- A forex card like Niyo is always the safest option.
- Always research common scams, especially in popular European destinations.
- Always carry USD, as it is widely accepted.
What She Never Travels Without
When asked about non-negotiables, Prerna shared a simple but powerful list:
- Pepper spray / Pocket knife.
- Scarf (surprisingly versatile for safety and comfort).
- A small lock, because hotel rooms can have spare keys.
It was a reminder that safety isn’t about fear, it’s about being prepared.
Stories, Snacks & Shared Experiences
As the conversation opened up, participants began sharing their own journeys, solo trips, partner travels, first-time fears, and lessons learned along the way.
The energy shifted from listening to connecting.
- Questions flowed freely.
- People exchanged travel tips.
- First-time attendees felt instantly welcomed.
- Experienced travellers found community.
Coffee cups emptied, snacks disappeared, and conversations stretched well beyond schedules.
Leaving Inspired
By the end of the meetup, one thing was clear: everyone walked out with:
New insights.
New connections.
And a little more courage than they walked in with.
For many women, it wasn’t just about travel. It was about believing that they could.
